Based in the municipal building completed in 1985, the Travelers Rest Police Department consists of fifteen sworn officers driving a fleet of twelve patrol vehicles and two patrol bicycles. Our facilities include a state-of-the-art computer aided dispatch center staffed by five full-time communications specialists, a three cell prisoner holding facility with a DataMaster breath alcohol content measuring device, and our own evidence storage facility.
Under the direction of Chief Lance Crowe and Captain John Gardner, the TRPD provides 24-hour patrol coverage for the city. In addition to the uniform patrol unit we have a plain clothes officer assigned to criminal investigations, a school resource officer stationed at the Travelers Rest High School, a traffic safety team, a bicycle patrol unit, and two canine officers.
Although “community oriented policing” has been overused almost to the point of being simply a buzz-word in law enforcement circles, our agency endeavors to institutionalize the concept as an underlying philosophy to everything we do.
We take pride in our proactive approach to policing when we work together with our community, empowering them to help us solve problems at their root.
