I first moved to Greenville, South Carolina to attend Bob Jones University. In the summer after my freshman year I completed the first class of the USMC Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia and I returned to complete my degree in graphic design. I ultimately chose law enforcement as my career and I spent over three years on BJU's Public Safety Department, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant over training.

After graduation I was hired as a deputy sheriff with Spartanburg County, SC under Sheriff Bill Coffey’s administration, where I was assigned to the patrol division. From 1998 to 2003 I served as a patrol sergeant and then as a shift lieutenant. In 2003 I was reassigned as an administrative lieutenant, overseeing critical tasks such as resolution of citizen complaints, managing the property and evidence operation, managing the field training program, and assisting the accreditation coordinator with the daily tasks of CALEA compliance.

A change in administration led me to resign from the Sheriff's Office in 2005 to accept the position of police captain with the Travelers Rest Police Department serving with Chief Tim Christy. I thoroughly enjoyed that position until April of 2006 when Chief Christy retired and I was named interim chief of police. Although I couldn't see it at the time, looking back now it's very clear to me that God was directing me to make the difficult decisions I had to make those final months in Spartanburg to bring me to a much better situation in Travelers Rest.

In June of 2006 I was named as the chief of police for the TRPD, where it is my distinct pleasure to lead an outstanding group of law enforcement professionals. The officers, dispatchers, and support staff of the TRPD are eager to serve the citizens of Travelers Rest in an increasingly hectic and taxing profession and I am honored to partner with them in their endeavors to make Travelers Rest a safer, more enjoyable place to live and work.
